Quarterly Book List (Books I've Read, Thoughts, and Such)

EDIT: It HAS occurred to me that this post covers four months...which is 1/3 and not 1/4 of the year- this throws my title off. It remains "Quarterly Book List" because I do plan to make this a quarterly update. So...all this to say, I shall see you in two months time for a book list update, where we will be back on track, and this can actually be a QUARTERLY Book List Series. Tschüß!
--------------

When I sit down and think over what I want to delve into during this time of quarantine, working on my blogging game comes to mind. (Are you reading this and it is not Spring 2020 when the ENTIRE WORLD is in some level of quarantine? Hello, from the past [present] to your present [future].)

To be fair, lots of things come to mind...like writing my memoir...but I do very well understand how being diligent with this smaller goal eventually works it's way into my bigger goal.

Today I thought I would talk about books, because, like my girls Kelly and Shelly, I cannot get enough of them!

Self-Quarentine goal: read more!!!

This is Me in Quarantine

So, for those of you who may not be reading this in real time, you will want to know that this quarantine business started gaining momentum about one month ago, and my book list will extend back to January 1st.

For those of you who may be borderline O.C.D. (like I may be), it will interest you to now that I keep a RUNNING LIST of books I have read (or listened to). And I make these posts to intrigue you and encourage you to read more, but also, I make these for my own mental well-being.
I enjoy knowing what I read.

If you have not already, you may want to consider making your own Book List (I have a separate list for books I want to read), or, if you're just crazy and in need of something semi-productive to fill your days, try making a list of ALL THE BOOKS YOU HAVE EVER READ!!!
-That sounds like mission impossible...but I may. Someday.

Although I am not a huge advocate for reading more than one book at a time, I have recently begun to do so. I blame audio books and the library app, from which I began listening to this year and have me reading one, starting another, and listening to a third.

My current reads are Anna Karenina and Body Love.
I found Anna in a Little Free Library book box in my neighborhood and I was drawn to it. I decided that I should absolutely read Tolstoy at least once in my life, so I brought it home. It's a long-winded tale and, what I can understand of it, I am enjoying.
Body Love is self-explanatory.
This was standing on the shelf at my library and I recognized it immediately because my Amazon account kept suggesting it as something I may be interested in. And Amazon was right. Thank you.

Anna Karenina (Bantam Classics): Leo Tolstoy, Joel Carmichael ...  Body Love: Live in Balance, Weigh What You Want, and Free Yourself ...

I listened to The Sacrament of Happy via audio and liked it. It is peppy and sweet, which is the temperament of the author, Lisa Harper. This books dares you not to smile like a loon.

Rethinking Sexuality was a book suggested by a dear friend and I read it to honor her judgement. This is not a book I typically would have read on my own, but I trust her and she is my personal therapist, so....

Rethinking Sexuality: God's Design and Why It Matters: Slattery ...

Where the Crawdads Sing was suggested to me by numerous friends and so I listened to this one while washing dishes and running through my neighborhood. With the exception of the sexual content, of which the great details seemed out of place, it was a really good book, and, darn-it! if I didn't text one friend immediately after the fact and exclaim I KNEW IT! (You'll have to read the book to understand.)

Yes, Please, because, Amy Poehler. I heart her so hard.
This cover is the way I dream my memoir will look.
This book was...well, dirty. Lots of cursing, drugs, sexuality, and swearing.
I did not love it, it made me think a little less of Amy....
But!
Then I realized that, No, I want to like her...and I still do!
Read (or listen, like I did!) at your own discretion.

A Dog's Purpose. Again, not a book I typically would have chosen, but it was in my neighborhood book box and I grabbed it impulsively. This book is sweet...and sad...and... well, let me just say that I understand completely why Hollywood made this into a movie. People eat this stuff up.

                           A Dog's Purpose | W. Bruce Cameron | Macmillan

Wildflower by Drew Barrymore. Again, I heart her!!!
Similar to Amy's book, there is a lot of cursing, but I have always, since I was a child, thought there was something special about Drew- I even named my 13-year-old birthday gift (a mouse) Drew in her honor! (Within two weeks, Drew [the mouse] gave birth to 12 babies and my birthday gift was donated to a pet shop.) THIS cover also contends for cover of my memoir.

My Squirrel Days was the first audio book I listened to. Friends of the Office will understand that this was an understandable -albeit, not the best book ever written- read,

My Squirrel Days | Book by Ellie Kemper | Official Publisher Page ...

Grace Not Perfection was a good one by Emily Ley. Although it was not as good as her book,
A Simplified Life, I do enjoy Emily's writing style.

Grace, Not Perfection: Embracing Simplicity, Celebrating Joy: Ley ...   Amazon.com: A Simplified Life: Tactical Tools for Intentional ...

When We Were On Fire...my first online read! Yay! The library app allowed me to check out books to read, not just to listen to. I found this gem and devoured it. For anyone feeling like the "youth group ate their young adulthood", I would recommend this book.

The Other Boleyn Girl. Similar to Anna Karenina, I saw this in a yard sale and snatched it right up. Also similar, this book was a long-winded story, but, unlike Tolstoy, it is so well written (and understandable), that I ate this in just a few sittings.

If You Only Knew...this was the first book I read this year. Jamie Ivey is all up in the Christian-Women-and Cool-People-Sphere I dream of being in, so it was just a matter of time until I read her book. #gogirl

If You Only Knew: My Unlikely, Unavoidable Story of Becoming Free ...

Honorable mentions: I began Knox's book, The Wondering Years but have struggled to finish it.
Also, I am redoing the She Reads Truth devotional, Read Your Bible.

Alright, your turn! What are you reading?
What have you read (and LOVED!) so for this year?
What's up next on your list?

All the best,
