My Lady

My Lady
I have heard it said that chivalry is dead.
That there are no true gentlemen left out there.
But I don't believe it.
Do you?

Recently, I heard a series of short stories, each a memory, of true
romance and -you guessed it- chivalry.
The stories were so beautiful and lovely. I did not ever want to
forget them.
Today, I sit and reminiscence, enjoying the faraway look in the
beautiful eyes of the beautiful woman who shared them with me.

This is a story for all the true gentlemen in this world.
As a woman, I am grateful to you.

When He pursued Her

She was working a humble job at the local bar. Night shift. Bartender.
She loved God and willingly sacrificed even her night hours to support
her children.
He saw her.
Once.
Twice.
He liked the way she looked and made this his place of choice.

One night he said hello.
He asked her for her name, or maybe he already knew it, I don't
remember.
He told her his name.
He smiled.
She smiled.

One particular night, after enjoying the company of his friend, he
stood to leave but first turned to her.
My Lady, he said, bowing.
Like a sweet, fun, gentleman, he said good night.
She smiled to herself.

The two eventually spoke and he asked her out on a date.
Music. Coffee. Conversation.
She accepted.

It was a wonderful night. It was also apparent that there was
mutual attraction between the two of them.
He, a tall, hard-working man.
She, a simple yet attractive, hard-working woman.
They officially began to date.

On a beautiful, chilly day in December, the two were married.
She, so shy and timid, burying her head in his chest with a lovely smile
in their favorite wedding day picture.
He, standing tall and proud: a knight with his beauty.

We share these vows, but do we mean the words...?
                      ...in richer and poorer...
                  ...to sickness and in health...
                      ...to death do we part...

Marriage is _______ . You can fill in the blank.
Fun!
Exciting!
Important!
What about this one, challenging?
Some days it is miserable and disappointing, can I be honest?

I don't mean to disrespect it.
Marriage is simply not something that is to be taken lightly.
In truth, it is hard stuff.
Daily learning to put your spouse before you in thought and concern.
(When this is mutual, everyone wins.)

Hard stuff...not the stuff romance books and wedding shower stories
are made of.
But very real stuff, still.

The beauty would have some unsuspected health issues.
The knight provided her with health insurance, and encouragement.
He provided her with security.

Then one day, this noble knight got sick.
Really sick.
Just as quick and out of the blue as so many others.
A life-expectancy shortened.

During the almost two full years of life he received after, his beauty
took her vows to heart and loved him through it.
Threw the sickness.
Threw the hurt.

They both felt it.
Two become one, after all.
-----

I heard that there was goosing.
Laughter and love.
A random, healthy, day.

A benefit was made. A race promoting health, awareness, and life.

On a gorgeous summer day, he gave his heart to Jesus and was
baptized in a pool.
The beauty, his Lady, led him to Jesus.

He provided her with protection, provision.
She showed him to the Cross.
------

In early December, she encouraged him to take some pictures with her.
Her beloved, now more frail, she wanted to love.
He smiled.
She smiled.
Genuine smiles.

If he was in pain, he did not show it.
If she was saddened, she did not show it.

They shared this sweet moment together.
-----

This knight went to be with his Heavenly Father on a January evening.
He was surrounded by love.

There are so many people in this world of ours who are blessed beyond
measure with love.
This is the first post I have to share- there are plenty more!

If you or anyone you know would like to support the great cause that
was fought during this knight's life, please check out the link below.
