Hello, catching up with a dear friend yesterday
Need a laugh?
Check this out:
After the lookout tower on President Eisenhauer's farm, we were driving into town: IN friend in passenger's seat, 4 and 2 year old in tow.
I was driving...and eating trail mix. It was hot, which meat that the chocolate chips were melting into my hand next to the raisins and peanuts.

4 Year-Old: Mommy, There's a spider on me!!
Mommy: Where? quickly turned head to see a TICK on 4 year-old's arm
Oh man! That's a tick! Made a quick grab at said tick...while driving and holding a handful of melting trail mix.
After grabbing the tick, I threw it out the open window.
Done.
Success.
That was when I realized that the trail mix had made my right hand a sloppy mess, having had rendered me one-handed.
In a flash, I poured the mix into my left hand -to separate the melted mix from the solid mix- and very quickly, I dumped the mix from my left hand into my mouth- I mean, I needed at least one hand with which to drive.
It was AT THAT MOMENT which it occurred to me that I never quite saw the tick get off my hand -my LEFT HAND- and fly away...nor did I see it get thrown out the window in the manner of kung-fu...which is my more-honest recollection. All of this made me wonder, mouth full of solid trail mix, hand full of melted trail mix, did I just put the tick in my mouth!!??
Naturally, I turned to my open window and began spewing the mix to the ground...not successfully keeping it all out of my vehicle.
So, with a sloppy hand, a messy car, a mouth full of...who knows what...I pulled over and cleaned up.
My friend in the passenger's seat, yeah, he was laughing.
In truth, it was quite a fun moment...horror of the tick and annoyance of the mess, and all.
transforming health
On a serious note, our 7-year-old twin neighbors have told us that ticks are supposed to be bad this year.
You have been warned.
Here are some great ways to be preventative:
