Day 94: The World; 100 Days to Brave

There is a mom group which meets at my house every other week. The objective is that we read through a book together (Last term it was Girl, Wash Your Face, this term it is Triggers).
The time is sacred in that it is a get-away for most, a time to be with other moms, many in the same stage of child-rearing as you...some a few steps ahead.
It is also sacred because we are gathered on two powerful terms: our being mothers, and our love of God.  No, it is not exclusive, but those of us who love God deeply are lights by proxy.

We are missional.

Some of the mothers can walk to my house. We live in the same neighborhood, or two neighborhoods apart. Others drive 20 and 30 minutes to come. I just open my door. Everyone makes the effort.

We are missional.

Sometimes taking a missions trip means saving money and hoping on a flight. It may mean rebuilding a house or putting on a skit about the love of Jesus to families of a different culture: bonded solely by their understanding of the motions you make with your hands and face. (I know this may sound like hogwash to the person who has NO CLUE what I am referring to. To prove this is legit, and offer a PREMIUM EXAMPLE, here's John Crist.)

 This is a must watch.
Like, right now. Stop what you are doing. Watch this!

I have a friend who is about to move to Africa. She is American. She speaks English. She is not married, not a mother. She is moving her life to another continent, another culture, another language, another set of norms. It looks like she is doing this alone, and in the natural, she is. But she is doing this because she feels the Lord calling her there.
She is not alone. She is missional.

Be Brave:
Consider going on a mission trip with your local church
or a mission organization like YWAM.

To Annie's bravery challenge I would add this:
Go.
To your neighbor. To your church. To the area of town you know is in the most need.

Go to a local nursing home, a college campus, a children's hospital. See how you can serve.
(When I am elderly, I dream of spending hours holding premature babies in hospitals and rocking them gently while singing prayers over them. A NICU grandma.)

Preemie babies find comfort in arms of NICU grandpa

To your computer, where you can access ministry opportunities which look like contributing money, volunteering at a stand, attending a rally, signing a petition.

Find something to be passionate about.

Here are some suggestions.
There are SO MANY.

YWAM
World Vision
Food for the Hungry
Compassion International
Samaritan's Purse
Operation Underground Railroad
Mercury One
Water Missions International
